Biography:
Dr. Martha Bigelow is an Assistant Professor in the Second Languages and Cultures Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Minnesota. She has many years of teaching English as a second or foreign language and has taught Spanish as well. She has been a foreign and second language teacher educator for seven years. Her research is in the areas of second language acquisition, literacy and language teacher education. Her teaching focuses on inservice and preservice language teacher education.

Biography:
Paul received his Ph.D. at Stanford University in 1985, Development economics, applied microeconomics and econometrics. Research interests are economics of education, poverty and inequality in developing countries, and applied econometrics. Since receiving his Ph.D. he has worked in the following countries: China, Cote d'Ivoire, Ghana, Honduras, Jamaica, Jordan, Kenya, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Turkey and Viet Nam. His recent publications have appeared in Economic Development and Cultural Change, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Economic Literature, Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Human Resources, Journal of Public Economics and World Bank Economic Review.

Biography:
Riulin Li – is a graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. She is a shareholder of Fredrikson & Byron and a member of the Corporate Department, of the Securities Group, and of the International Practice Group. Ruilin works on a variety of business matters, including mergers and acquisitions, compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission requirements, and corporate formation and governance. Prior to working at Fredrikson & Byron, she earned her law degree in China and practiced law for five years in Tianjin, China. Her unique qualification in American and Chinese law enables her to assist both U.S. businesses expanding into Chinese markets and Chinese businesses seeking representation in the United States.

Biography:
Margaret has been in the field of education for more than three decades. In addition to 35 years of Mandarin teaching and curriculum development experience, Margaret has been the director of international education at Breck School since 1990. At Breck, where there are more than 450 students enrolled in the Chinese program, Margaret has created and instituted the K-12 Chinese curriculum and coordinated and overseen more than 21 student trips to China.

Biography:
Tony Lorusso was appointed in November 2003 as executive director of the Minnesota Trade Office (MTO), the state’s official export development arm. As director, Tony is responsible for developing the state’s international marketing plans, identifying international market opportunities, managing trade missions, guiding the development of export education programs and promotional events, and overseeing a staff of international trade representatives. Under Tony’s direction, the Minnesota Trade Office also is the lead agent for the Minnesota – China Partnership, a new broad-based, statewide strategy to enhance Minnesota’s relationship with China.

Biography:
Kaimay is a Chinese-American community activist in the Twin Cities. She has been engaging in issues affecting Chinese Americans locally and nationally for years. She was former president of the Chinese American Association of Minnesota and is currently the Capital Campaign Chair of a Home for Chinese Arts and Dance in Minnesota, chair of the CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, and editor of News and Views, a quarterly bilingual newsletter. She serves on the board of the City of St. Paul Cultural STAR grants program and the Walker Art Center Community Advisory Council. Kaimay is the founder and owner of VideoMed®, Inc., which produces and distributes nationwide patient education video programs.
