The Application Process
- Contact the China Center at 612-624-1002, chinactr@umn.edu to obtain an application or download the PDF application.
- Submit the application document along with the following items:
- A nonrefundable $100 application fee paid to the University of Minnesota
- A five- to ten-minute video interview (see the "Application Video Explanation" in the general program information document for details)
- Two letters of reference (one academic and one professional)
- A copy of your most recent resume that exhibits your relevant academic and work experience
- An official academic transcript
All application materials must be submitted, either by mail or in person, to:

After Your Application is Received
- All applicants will be reviewed by an applicant review committee, which will ensure that each candidate fulfills all requirements.
- Approved candidates will be marketed to appropriate companies throughout China. Companies will offer placements to candidates they would like to hire (Note: Some companies many request a phone interview before offering the placement.)
If You are Offered a Job
- Hired candidates will be sent a placement contract, which will include, but is not limited to the following details: company contact information, job description, salary, and length of employment. The placement contract and the liability waiver must be signed and returned to the China Center, along with the program fee (6 months = $1,500; over 6 months = $2,000/ program fees for non-University of Minnesota applicants are $500 higher), and a $100 evaluation desposit in order to officially accept the placement. Program fees are slightly higher for non-University of Minnesota students. All fees are subject to change.
- The China Center will provide all hired candidates with instruction regarding the logistics of relocation. Such logistical instruction will include but is not limited to the following items: visa application, airline ticket, pre-departure orientation, and housing. All relocation costs will be paid by the hired candidate.
- Begin a career placement in China!
- A month after you begin your career placement, China Center staff will contact you to monitor your adjustment to working and living in China as well as address any relevant issues.
- Upon the completion of your placement, the China Center will provide placed professionals with an evaluation form, which will analyze such aspects as: work environment, company management, relevance of work to career goals, etc. Successful completion of this evaluation form will ensure the return of the $100 evaluation deposit.
