Scholarship Information
The University of Minnesota China Center, in cooperation with the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Washington DC, is pleased to offer a full academic-year scholarship to a University of Minnesota undergraduate or graduate student for study at a university in mainland China. The scholarship will cover tuition and room and board, and will pay a small monthly stipend to cover books and incidental expenses. International airfare, health insurance, the physical exam requirement, and any study abroad service fees are not included.
Chinese Universities
More than 88 Chinese Institutions of higher education in 20 provinces and autonomous cities are authorized by the Ministry of Education of China to accept international students to study in China under Chinese Government Scholarship program.
Eligibility
- Applicant must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program at the University of Minnesota
- Applicant must be a U. S. citizen
- For graduate applicant: Must have completed a minimum of three years of Chinese language instruction or demonstrate the ability to complete graduate level study or research in Chinese
- For undergraduate applicant: Must have completed a minimum of two years of Chinese language instruction
- Must be under the age of 30
Application Process
Complete the application packet including:
- Scholarship application form
- Faculty recommendation
- Language evaluation form
- Personal statement of purpose
- Current transcript
Selection Criteria
- Well-defined objective involving applicant's program in China and one in which the development of language skills is primary
- Strong record of academic achievement
- Strong motivation and potential for independent accomplishment in his/her chosen field
Applicants will be reviewed by a committee; scholarship recipients will be notified of scholarship awards by mail approximately three weeks after the application deadline.
